➢ Universal Design for Learning (UDL) supports greater flexibility and choice for teachers, parents, and students. It also fosters mutual respect for diversity, tolerance and acceptance of all members of society
➢ Students with more options wiill have better access to knowledge and therefore will have improved opportunities for growth
➢ Students without disabilities in mixed ability groups showed increased academic achievement (Fischer et al, 2000)
➢ UDL breeds diversity and respect for all which is crucial in a modern society and these skills are just as important as high academic standings.
➢ UDL allows for more students to become passionate about topics since issues can be discussed using a variety of different learning modalities
➢ Differentiation can be achieved through WAI-Web Accessibility Initiatives. E.g. eReader, ke:nx, eTrekker, Engaging Minds Inspiration, or Write:outloud software programs
➢ UDL provides multiple means of expression which provide learners alternatives for demonstrating what they know.
➢ Given some tools to work with, there is no reason why people with disabilities cannot peform at comparable levels and be active members of schools and communities.
➢ The students with disabilities receive positive enrichment in classroom settings. They are taught how to ask questions, how to research, as well as how to use information effectively in order to present it in the best possible medium.
➢ In a UDL environment, assessment is more real and representative of the entire class since all students have the same level of access to information and demonstration of knowlewdge .
